For New Year's Eve 2026 (Thursday, December 31), Milan is the only one of the three with an officially announced public event: a celebration in Piazza del Duomo promoted by the Comune di Milano. Rio's Réveillon in Copacabana and Punta del Este's midnight celebration are probable based on past editions, but neither city has published its 2026 program yet.

Below: what each city has confirmed, what's probable, and a side-by-side table. Sources are at the end.

Milan

Milan's New Year's Eve centers on Piazza del Duomo, with an event promoted by the Comune; the organizer, artists and times haven't been announced yet. La Scala has performances on December 30 and 31, and fireworks are restricted in the center. For the full plan, rules and a 4-day itinerary, see our Milan New Year's Eve 2026 guide.

Rio de Janeiro (Réveillon in Copacabana)

Confirmed (official): nothing yet for 2026–2027. The City of Rio and Riotur haven't announced stages, artists, fireworks or the transport plan.

Probable (based on the last edition, per prefeitura.rio): a free celebration on Copacabana beach with several stages and fireworks from barges at midnight. Last time, the city set up 13 stages across Rio, 19 barges and 12 minutes of fireworks with a drone show, expected more than 2.5 million people in Copacabana, and deployed about 7,500 municipal staff for the operation. The program was published in December.

Punta del Este

Confirmed (official): the Intendencia de Maldonado hasn't published a 2026–2027 New Year's program.

Probable (press): a midnight celebration along the Rambla Claudio Williman and Playa Mansa. According to local press, last year there was a drone show supported by the Intendencia and fireworks from a private operator, and the Intendencia did not hold its traditional "Galas de Luces" fireworks.
